WIP - Garden Window Quilt

I have been working on my Garden Window Quilt this week, it a beautiful floral panel that I had no idea what to do with, so I sat and stared at it and came up with this quilt design for it. In the beginning it was going to be a pieced quilt but over time the idea of this quilt kept changing. This quilt is a gift for my 2nd Mum (mother-in-law) who loves the colour red.

I have started my first applique quilt this year and I must say that applique has me hooked which is why this quilt has changed from just a pieced quilt to one that has applique as well. Currently I am working on the applique part of the quilt.

As I am not a very good drawer I found a picture of the flower I wanted and used it for the template for my flowers and leaves. I have created all the bias binding for the stems and currently working in sections for the turned edge flowers & leaves, then adding them to the quilt and sewing them down.

Just finished sewing the leaves & Stems down on this section

The whole section - just the flowers to go

What some of the quilt looks like.
Unfortunately you can't see the whole effect of the quilt in the above photo as I have it pinned to the curtain. I can't wait to get my design wall so that I can see my progress as I go. I still have a way to go and need to get it finished by August as that is when my mother-in-law arrives to visit.

Easter Blessings

Hi Everyone, This is my first post ever on my new Blog, I hope I don't bore people to death. This blog is about my journey as a relatively newish quilter. I have been quilting for approx 2 years now and have learnt some things and still need to learn.

Today's Blog is about an applique pattern I did a couple of months ago from Esther Aliu called: Easter Blessings, it is an appliqued wall hanging. Though when I saw it I knew my DD would love it as it had a bunny on it. I instantly thought a fluffy bunny would look great, however the end result didn't quite turn out how I wanted but still very happy with this. I also didn't want a wall hanging so thought a pillow case that way you get to cuddle into the fluffy bunny.

The Fluffy Bunny
This was my second attempt at applique which I am very proud of and think it turned out quite nicely. Though the thin stems were difficult to deal with as I did raw edge applique for the first time on this project but I finally got them sorted. I also added some embellishment on some of the flowers with hand embroidery and beads.

Needless to say my DD loves the pillowcase and has it on her bed all the time. It is surprising me the sturdiness of the applique as it has been washed many times.
